Light-Up Ball Recommendations For Your Next Nighttime Soccer Party
Glow-in-the-dark balls are an improved version of your favorite pastime, especially when you can continue your soccer or basketball game even after the sun has set. And with a glow or light-up soccer ball, you can plan a nighttime game and invite all your friends. Here are some recommendations for you as you shop for and plan out your next nighttime soccer party.
Light-Up Versions
When you are shopping for a glow-in-the-dark ball that you can play with after sunset, there are several types of glowing balls that you can choose from. The first type of glow ball is made of a plastic that contains phosphor particles. When these particles of phosphor are exposed to a light source, either from the sun or a light bulb, they absorb and are energized from the light to radiate visible light when they are in the dark.
If you are looking for a more long-lasting glow, however, you may want to look for a ball that is filled with small glow sticks that you break by bouncing your ball onto a hard surface. Once you shake the activated glow gel inside the ball, it will glow for several hours. This option is good for a single-use ball, but when you want to reuse your ball over and over, look for a battery-powered light-up glow ball.
Look For Replaceable Batteries
One of the most important features of your light-up soccer ball is the type of batteries the ball contains. Your batteries will last for a certain period of time, depending on how much you use them, but you should plan to have replacement batteries. Some light-up soccer balls include a replacement set of batteries; otherwise, buy an extra set so you have some that you can use as replacements and extend your nighttime soccer game time.
Look for a battery replacement tool to help you pull out the LED lights from the side of the ball's light port. Most light-up balls will have two sets of lights, one on either side of the ball, so be sure you plan to replace both sets.
Remember a Ball Pump
Your light-up ball will also need a ball pump to keep it ready for play. Most sports balls will need a simple needle-tipped pump, which you can find in a hand pump version, or you can use a powered air pump or compressor with a needle attachment to fill and keep the ball inflated.
